when setting up a slackline, is it safer to use a line locker or am I okay with just using knots?
I want to know in case if the slackline were to ever snap. I heard that line lockers can go flying and do some damage, but what if no line locker was used? Are you safe from any flying metal objects? I know that line lockers make the job easier to tension the slackline, I just don't want to spend the extra bucks because I'm fine with tying knots. Unless it's safer to use a line locker then I will probably buy it. I'm just unsure of the safety value of either method.
I`ve always used knots without a problem. Do a friction wrap with one end and tie it using whatever knot you`d like and then on the other end pull the webbing around the tree or object as you would and tie a truckers hitch 3 feet on the slackline (the part you`ll be walking on) and then pass the end of the webbing through the loop and pull it back towards the tree. You`re essentially making a pulley to tighten the slackline.
